Fashionable Mourning with The Metropolitan Museum of Art! Tottenham Ayatollah with Jon Ronson! Victorian Photographic Physiognomy! This Week and Beyond at Morbid Anatomy

We at the Morbid Anatomy Museum are delighted to announce scores of wonderful events taking place in the weeks and months to come.

First off, we are celebrating the extension of our Art of Mourning exhibition (now on view through Friday, January 16th) with three mourning-themed events. On Wednesday, January 14, we are thrilled to be hosting an illustrated talk on mourning fashion by Jessica Glasscock, research associate for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's fabulous "Death Becomes Her" exhibition; more on that can be found here. Saturday, January 17th, scholar in residence and Victorian hair art expert Karen Bachmann will be leading a guided tour of the “Death becomes Her" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, more on which can be found here. Finally, we will be hosting a mourning-themed exhibition closing party featuring a final tour of the exhibition by the co-curators, traditional mourning foods, mourning film clips, and complimentary drinks and snacks. Mourning costume is encouraged but not required! You can find out more, and purchase tickets, here.

Additionally, we have added a second screening of "The Ballad of Ruby Ridge,"a thought-provoking and stirring film by journalist and film-maker Jon Ronson which documents the genesis of the white militia movement; this will take place on on Thursday, January 15th; more info on that here; we will also be screening Ronson's "Tottenham Ayatollah" documentary on Thursday, February 12th; more info on that can be found here.

We also hope very much to see this Wednesday, January 7th, at an illustrated talk on the scholarly mysticism of British mystic poet--and co-creator of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck--A.E. White by Stuart Sudekum; more on that can be found here. Tarot deck--A.E. White by Stuart Sudekum; more on that can be found here. You also won't want to miss our Valentine's Day double header, which will begin with a screening, lecture and launch party for the new web series "Origins: Superstitions" with film-maker in Residence Ronni Thomas and Mitch Horowitz, author of Occult America (Friday, February 13th) followed by "Love Cults, Drugs and the Hypnotic Arts," an illustrated lecture and rare film screening with the incomparable Mel Gordon, author of Voluptuous Panic and Grand Guiginol on the big day itself (Saturday, February 14); more info here and here respectively, with a special double-header ticket available for both!
