Members-Only Early Access to Future Morbid Anatomy Flea Markets! William Mortensen Witches! The Luxor Mummy! News and Events at Morbid Anatomy

Thanks to all of those who braved the sun and the lines for our epic flea market last Sunday! If you did not make it--or gave up when you saw the line!--you can pay a virtual visit via yesterday's Gothamist. Images above, including top image of vendor Ryan Mathew Cohn, are drawn from that piece which you can see by clicking here.

We also wish to offer our sincere apologies to those who were unable to get in, or waited 2+ hours to do so. We were taken completely off guard by the turnout, and will craft future iterations to solve this problem.

You can avoid the lines at our next Flea Market--which will take place Sunday, August 30--by becoming a member today! Members will have special access to flea markets before the doors open to the general public. Members also receive alerts about our often sold out events before they are announced to the general public, and  enjoy perks including unlimited free museum entry and discounts on special events and parties. They also help support our fledgling museum! You can become a member today--starting at only $50 a year!--by clicking here.

We also have some upcoming events to alert you to. First off: We have a new date for our twice rained out event with Catherine Gallant on Isadora Duncan’s Dances of Mourning at the historic chapel at Greenwood Cemetery; the new date will be Wednesday, July 29th, and it will take place inside, so no more rain dates! You can get tickets and find out more here.

We also have three newly announced events: Raccoon Shoulder Mount Class with taxidermist in residence Karie Innamorato (Tuesday, August 4th; Tickets and more here); an illustrated talk with Dr. Stanley Krippner entitled Demystifying Shamanism (Friday, August 28th; Tickets and more here) and a lecture by "Egytptologist in residence" Ava Forte Vitali entitled The Luxor Mummy: The Fantasy and Reality of Egyptian Mummy Magic (Tuesday, September 29th; Tickets and more here.)

We also have a few great events happening this week: Tonight, we have Movie Mike Presents Morbid Movie Madness - A Survey of Serials of the 30s and 40s First Chapters of Thrilling Tales in real 16mm (TONIGHT Tuesday, June 30th, Tickets and more here) and this Thursday, we hope to see you at Now You See It, Now You Don't: The Psychology of Magic, an Illustrated Lecture with Robert Teszka (Thursday, July 2nd, Tickets and more here).

We also hope to see you at our one year anniversary "Festival of Arcane Knowledge" on Saturday, July 18! The event will include a one-day only pop-up exhibition of fabulous 1930s witchcraft photographs by William Mortensen, complements of the Stephen Romano Gallery. It will also feature MC Evan Michelson of TV's Oddities introducing a full day of programming which will include short talks by Harold Schechter; Dr. Neal Goldsmith; and Douglas Rushkoff; a show and tell with an Egyptian mummy head by Mike Zohn of TV's Oddities; and a taxidermy demonstration by taxidermist in residence Katie Innamorato. Following will by a Devil's Masquerade afterparty and costume contest with prizes, music and cocktails! Full line up and more information can be found here.
There is also still time to enter our special fundraising raffle, where you have a chance to win a trip for two with hotel and airfare included from your home city to the Morbid Anatomy Museum this October for Day of the Dead! Must enter by September 20th, and winner will be announced on September 21; Details can be found here.

List of events follows. Hope to see you at one or more!
