House of Wax Opening Party! Alchemy Sound and Vision! Anatomy Show and Tell for Kids! Medical History Theater 3000! Morbid Anatomy Flea Market! Upcoming MA Events

Anatomical Venus, Castan's Panopticum,
Berlin, 1869 - 1922, On view as part of House of Wax
We have many wonderful upcoming events at the Morbid Anatomy Museum!

To celebrate the launch of the new Morbid Anatomy Taxidermy Kit, we're raffling off a spot in our popular anthropomorphic mouse taxidermy class with resident taxidermist Divya Anantharaman along with a complimentary kit ($170 combined value) to one lucky winner! Designed by Divya and founding board member Tonya Hurley, each kit contains all the tools a budding taxidermist needs within a sturdy black canvas roll hand-printed in Brooklyn by local artist Mark Splatter. Entries are just $5 or 5 for $20 by clicking the link here.

Next, we'll explore end-of-life experiences and their use in understanding human consciousness and grief with artist and educator Leigh Davis (Thursday, October 22nd); view a mash-up of medical, dental, psychology, epidemiology, health and hygiene films from between 1920 and 1965 with historian Mike Sappol (Friday, November 6th); grab a sketchbook and a glass of wine for an evening of relaxed drawing in the Morbid Anatomy library with artist and anatomist Emily Evans (Monday, November 9th); join Emily again for the release of her latest work,Anatomy in Black, a lush coffee table anatomy book illustrated entirely in black and gold (Wednesday, November 11th); and learn bat articulation, an osteological preparation of a bat in the fashion of 19th century zoological displays, with Wilder Duncan (Sunday, November 15th and Saturday, January 23rd).

We hope to see you this week for a look at the changing face of masculinity in the American West with Michael McMenamin of the Museum of the City of New York(Thursday, September 17th, 8 pm); a special daytime workshop on skinning and tanning methods with resident taxidermist Katie Innamorato (Thursday, September 17th, 1 pm to 4 pm); a starling taxidermy class with Katie Innamorato (Saturday, September 19th, 12 pm to 7 pm); and a fancy chicken taxidermy class co-facilitated by both Katie and Divya (Sunday, September 20th, 12 pm to 7:30 pm). Join us again next week for a screening of Sundance favorite Finders Keepers: The Mysterious History of John Wood's Amputated Leg with a director Q & A (Monday, September 21st, 8 pm); and learn about famous mathematicians who took human life with professor Michael Carlisle (Tuesday, September 22nd).

To avoid sold out events—and to get exclusive hour-early access to our October 18th flea market—become a Morbid Anatomy Museum Member! Besides early entry and advance notice of events, members also enjoy discounted admissions and unlimited free museum entry, and help us keep a roof over our heads! Find out morehere.

There is also still time to enter our special fundraising raffle, where you have a chance to win a trip for two with hotel and airfare included from your home city to the Morbid Anatomy Museum this October for Day of the Dead! Must enter by September 20th, and winner will be announced on September 21st. Details can be found here.

Lastly, we're thrilled to announce our new Morbid Anatomy Anthology Deluxe Handmade Slipcased Limited Edition shipping mid to late November, just in time for Christmas! This special collector's edition includes a handmade letterpress booklet containing a toast written and signed by artistic advisor Mark Dion; a DVD of filmmaker in residence Ronni Thomas' film "Walter Potter: The Man who Married Kittens" along with other Morbid Anatomy Presents shorts; a signed and numbered archival 5 X 7 photo print of the Palermo Catacombs by creative director Joanna Ebenstein, AND a one year membership to the Morbid Anatomy Museum.
