We have an action packed schedule at The Morbid Anatomy Museum!

First, we have two events to celebrate the release of The Anatomical Venus—the new Morbid Anatomy book by co-founder and creative director Joanna Ebenstein. To find out more about this book-- which Publisher's Weekly calls "The Strangest Book of the Year"; The Tattler calls "Fabulous … A mesmerizing marriage of art and science"; and The Telegraph calls "...wonderful and epically illustrated," click here.

For the über-geeks among you, come immerse yourself in all things Venus at this Saturday's Venus-themed symposium, with talks by Mel Gordon, Stephen Asma, Mark Dery, Mike Sappol, Amy Herzog, Asti Hutsvedt and more (Saturday, June 4th, 11 am to 6:30 pm). Tomorrow, hope to see you at the official book release at the Strand's Rare Book Room featuring Ebenstein in conversation with Evan Michelson of the Science Channel’s Oddities, introduced by Museum co-founder and board chair Tracy Hurley Martin (Thursday, June 2nd, 7 pm).

And if you are intrigued by Anatomical Venuses, why not come by The Morbid Anatomy Museumto see some in person at our current House of Wax exhibition, curated by Ryan Matthew Cohn? You have much more time to do so, as we are delighted to announce that, due to popular demand, the show has been extended to August!

We are also very excited to be hosting mediums from Lilydale--the world’s largest Spiritualism community--for a series of talks and workshops exploring spiritualism, a religion in which people attempt to communicate with the dead. The schedule for the series,--curated by Artist and Scholar in Residence Shannon Taggart-- is as follows: Spirits, Spoon Benders and Suffragettes: An Introduction to Spiritualism (Wednesday, June 8th, 7 pm); Spirit Portraits, Auragraphs and Automatic Drawings: A Spiritualist Art Workshop with Medium Susan Barnes (Saturday, June 11th, 11 am); Spiritualist Medium, Free Love Advocate and Presidential Candidate: The Revolutionary Feminism of Victoria Woodhull with Dr. Cristina Zaccarini (Saturday, June 11th, 2 pm); One Minute Mediumship: An Experimental Workshop with Medium Lauren Thibodeau (Saturday June, 11th, 3:30 pm); and Traditional Spiritualist Message Service with Tea and Coffee Reception (Sunday, June 12th, 2 pm).

We are also very excited to announce a series of new events! First up is a debate between The Guardian's Oliver Burkeman and author Mitch Horowitz on whether positive or negative thinking offers the best path to fulfillment (Wednesday, June 15th, 7 pm). We also have a lecture on NSK (Neue Slowenische Kunst): Avant Garde Art Collective and Virtual State by NSK Diplomat Charles Lewis (Thursday, August 4th, 7 pm); and a new iteration of our über-popular Morbid Anatomy Flea Market taking place at Villain in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! The larger space means many more vendors (35!) hawking taxidermy, artful bones, unusual antiques, obscure books; fortunetellers; and much more. As always, members get in one hour early and can skip the line! (Sunday, June 26th, 12pm to 6pm. Become a member here).

We also also delighted to announce two especially unique new offerings: World Making Through Personal Symbols, a new class on art and symbolism class taught by Rebecca Purcell (artist and co-creator of the iconic ABC Home) in tandem with our friends at ARAS Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism at the C.G. Jung Center of New York (June 20-23, 7 pm to 9 pm); and a live acoustic at The Museum set by David J. of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets fame (Sunday, July 31st, 7 pm). This one is sure to sell out fast, so buy tickets today!

Following is a handy list of events and Morbid Anatomy News. Hope to see you at one or more!
