Old medical illustrations never cease to amaze with their high level of artistry. For such a grim and "serious" medical subject matter, there is a really lovely handling of colour and light. Look at that glint of reflection on the upper skull diagram, for instance- such a beautiful touch which gives a real sense of the texture of the bone.
